Micromed intraocular gases and tamponade agents

PDMS silicone oil (multiple viscosities), PFCL, and MICROGAS (SF₆, C₂F₆, C₃F₈ – pure and mixed with nitrogen) for vitreoretinal surgery.

Silicone oils – PDMS intraocular silicone oil

Micromed PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) is a highly purified, transparent silicone oil designed for long‑term intraocular tamponade (≥30 days) after vitrectomy. It is available in a range of viscosities and formats to support different surgical preferences, including:

  • Glass syringes, vials, refills and dispenser systems
  • 1000, 1300, 2000 and 5000 cSt viscosities to tailor tamponade stability and handling characteristics

Perfluorocarbon liquids – PFCL
Micromed PFCL (perfluorodecalin) is a high‑density, high‑clarity perfluorocarbon liquid for short‑term intraoperative use, providing retinal stabilisation and assistance with re‑attachment during vitreoretinal surgery. PFCL is supplied in:
  • Pre‑filled glass syringes
  • Vials with accompanying syringes and needles

Intraocular gases – MICROGAS
Micromed MICROGAS products offer a full range of intraocular gases for vitreoretinal surgery, with options in both pure and nitrogen‑mixed presentations:
  • SF₆ – short‑acting gas (approx. 1–2 weeks)
  • C₂F₆ – medium‑acting gas (approx. 4–5 weeks)
  • C₃F₈ – long‑acting gas (approx. 7–8 weeks)

Each gas is available as:
  • Pure formulations (to be mixed with nitrogen prior to use)
  • Pre‑mixed with nitrogen to help control expansion and reduce the risk of hypertone

Kits typically include the gas canister plus connector, 0.2 μm sterilising filter, 60 ml PP syringe, 3‑way tap and 27 G / 30 G needles for convenient preparation.
